Carmex Skin Care, baby!

It's more than just lips!  I know I've told you all before, but I really like to hear myself talk, so here it is again!  Carmex makes LOTION!!!  They have a Healing Cream and a Hydrating Lotion.  I really love the Healing Cream because I've been able to get rid of my cracked heels!  Of course the lotion is great, too!

I keep a bottle at work.  It's perfect because it has a nice, light scent.  I live in Austin and there are a lot of people with sensitive noses that can't handle super fruity/floraly/perfumey scents.  I have never heard a peep about my using the Carmex lotion...actually, people are usually shocked to know they make lotion!  Why shouldn't they, though?  Carmex has taken care of our lips for YEARS!!  I say it's about time they start taking care of the rest of us!

Want some?  You know you do!!!  Go buy some, then!  Oh, you want to win some?  Well, you know Carmex is going to hook you up with a full bottle of each!  I can't wait til you try it!!

Will I ever be a good mom?

I'm not a great mom.  I know this.  I lose my cool more often than I'd like to.  Sometimes I wish they would 'act right' more than I wish they would be themselves.  It's not even something I realize I'm doing.  Sometimes it would seem as though I care more about what strangers think than how my kids feel.

This is, of course, not true.  I love my kids more than anything in the world.  So, why do I do this?  Why does anyone do it?  I mean, we all treat the ones we love the most worse than we would a stranger at times, right?

Where do you learn to be a good parent?  I didn't have the greatest childhood.  It certainly wasn't the worst, but I didn't feel important growing up...I still don't.  Are you supposed to feel important as a child?  I want my boys to feel loved and important, so how do I do that?  If you never saw it growing up, how do you do it?  How do you get that balance of authority and love.  How do you let them know they rock your world without ruling it?

I'm a yo-yo, they are a yo-yo.  Consistency is key and I'm not consistent.  Sometimes I'm too hard on them, then I feel bad and I'm too easy on them.  Their family life has been ripped apart and I've tried to make up for that by giving in more often than I should, but that isn't their fault.  I can't let them do something three times and then all of a sudden get mad because they do the same thing again.

I think I need to pick out a few things I want them to know for certain as they grow and focus on those.  There are so many parenting books, so much conflicting information out there.   I mean, it's good because kids are all so different, but it can be overwhelming at times.  Do I really need to play with my kids for 4 hours a day?  Does that stunt their imagination or cause them to have a warped sense of reality, thinking that the world revolves around them and mommy does everything they want?  Or, is it just great time to spend bonding...time that, if you don't spend together, you will one day wish you could have back.

Are we over analyzing everything these days?  Are there a lot of people out there who, like me, don't feel like they have a 'place' in life?  Can I prevent this from happening to my boys?  What makes one feel secure with themselves?  A secure attachment growing up?  Is it just in the genes?

I love those little guys with all my being...here's to swallowing this mommy guilt and doing something to better all our lives.

God help us all.

Carmex Lip Conditioner - Yesssss!

I know I've mentioned this before, but I love, love, LOVE being part of the Carmex Blog Squad!  I've loved Carmex since I was a little girl!  My grandma always had several jars around the house.  Carmex has managed to keep up with the times and continues to bring us innovative products.  Their new Lip Conditioner is no different.  I've never used a lip conditioner before and I can't believe what I've been missing!  There are 13 moisturizers packed in this little tube of loveliness!

The Carmex everyday Lip Conditioner is such a neat, different thing than your regular lip balm.  My favorite part is that it isn't sticky or greasy.  It's like lotion for your lips!  It rubs in and that's that.  It has a great light orange flavor, delicious.  My lips feel SOOOOO different, just after using for a week.  No more little pieces of skin to bite off...totally kissable!  Now, if there was just someone around to kiss!!!

Get some, get some!  Seriously, this stuff is priced right and AWESOME!  I've never been able to stick with a regular lip balm because it's sticky.  I feel like my hair always sticks to it...ugh.  Not, Carmex Lip Conditioner...really, other than the great taste of orange, you don't notice it's there.  You do notice the result, though.  Two thumbs up from this girl!!!

disclaimer: the makers of Carmex contacted me and provided me with the products to try, but the opinions expressed are my own.

Carmex - Pomegranate, Beach Bag and More Review and Giveaway

Hello Everyone!  Have I mentioned that I love, love, love being a Carmex Blog Squad member?  I do, I really do!  They surprised me with a great treat this time (ok, as always)!  I received a GREAT yellow Carmex beach bag...a nice one with a connected, zippered mini bag!  In the mini bag was 6, count em 6 Carmex Sticks to try!  Wow!  I got Lime Twist, Original, Cherry, Vanilla, Strawberry and their NEW flavor, Pomegranate!  Yum, Yum, Yum!  My lips are soooo happy!

It Soothes
It Heals
It Protects!

I have to tell you that the Pomegranate is amazing!  The first time I put it on, my son came up to me and thought I was eating his fruit snacks!  It smells that great, really!  He didn't believe that it was just my lips that smelled so great, he was convinced I'd eaten his treats!  It really does smell great and has all the wonderful qualities we have all come to expect from Carmex.

All of the sticks have SPF 15, which is great for the Texas sun.  I'm just amazed at how far Carmex has come and stayed with the times!  I remember my grandma having the little jars all around her house!  I love that there is still that familiar smell with a twist of something great!  I am thrilled with all of them, but really loving the Pomegranate!  I feel so healthy and hip, all at the same time!  Oh, and my lips feel (and smell) great!

Lucky you!  Carmex is giving you the same A-Mazing gift they gave me!  A beach bag full of Carmex Sticks!  Who wants it?

Five Mom-Inspired Driving Tips!

Driving alone can be crazy enough, but when you add children, it’s a whole new ball game!  Here are five tips to help your family drive time be a little more pleasant!

Be Prepared!  Whether this means having the dvd player set up, having snacks ready to hand out or the favorite sing-a-long cd locked and loaded, be ready!  This is especially great on long trips.  When children start getting fussy because they are hungry or bored, it can become quite distracting and dangerous to be on the road.  Have food and activities within reach at all times and you should be ok!

Take the stress out!  Leave early and plan your route!  Look at a map before you head out, so you know where you are going.  If I’m going somewhere new, sometimes I’ll even drive there the day before to make sure I know where I’m going so I don’t end up stressed and late!

Buckle, Buckle, Buckle Up!  I know it seems like I shouldn’t even have to mention this, but there is not a week that goes by that I don’t see a kid standing up in their vehicle, not buckled in.  People, this is no joke, buckle them up and buckle yourself up…it’s the law and it’s the only smart thing to do!

Avoid the crazies! Driving with your kids is no time to be changing lanes like a maniac and running yellow-ish traffic lights!  Get out of the fast lane, stop when you should, observe the speed limit and just take it easy.  When you take your time, it’s a lot less stressful and you are able to me aware, and giving yourself  more time to react to what comes your way.

Don’t drive while tired! Oh, the sleepless nights of a mom!  Especially moms of infants, but we all know the lack of sleep never stops!  I know it’s hard to get sleep and we end up quite sleepy a lot of the time.  Please, Please, PLEASE do not get behind the wheel if you are tired.  There is nothing that important that can’t be rescheduled if you are feeling that tired.  I know we often think “I can do it”, but this is not one to be taken lightly.  It’s so easy to nod out from the lull of the car when we are overtired.  Get some rest and do it later!  That’s a decision you will never regret!

I hope all my readers stay safe while driving and I would love to hear any tips you may have to staying safe while driving your precious cargo!

New Carmex Healing Cream and Lotion Review and Giveaway!

Carmex has done it now!  Finally, after years of fixing our lips, they are now tackling our skin!  Yay!

I got to review their New Healing Lotion and Healing Cream.  The Healing Lotion is a great lotion with Aloe and Vitamin E that can be used daily.  The Healing Cream has 9 healing ingredients and is more concentrated to be used on your driest, roughest skin.

I have been using the Healing Cream on my elbows.  They have gotten quite rough over the last few years.  I can tell you it works GREAT!!  No more elbow snagging on my sweaters (ew, gross!).

My husband has been using both on his fingers.  He has some weird thing going on every winter.  His fingers get so dry and chapped that he can barely make a fist.  We have tried several things including going to bed with lotion and gloves on, using products that were made for cows, and almost anything else you can think of!  This has actually worked quite well for him.  It is not all gone, but it is so much better than it has ever been since it started, so we are very happy about this!

I'll admit one of my favorite things about the lotion and cream is the smell!  It has a faint smell of the original Carmex in a jar!  My grandma always had them laying about her house, so it brings back very fond memories and it reminds me that I am using a product from a brand I totally trust!

Carmex sent me two bottles of each!  The Healing Lotion came in a 5.5 oz and a 1 oz (perfect for my purse) lotion and the Healing Cream came in a 4 oz and a .75 oz bottle.  Guess what?  They want to send you one, too!  Double Yay!

Tips for staying cold and flu-free this season!

Flu season is upon us!  Boo!  The only thing worse than getting the flu is watching your little one get it!  I've put together a few tips on how to stay cold and flu-free this season.

Washing your hands!  Ok, this might seem like a no-brainer, but it is oh so important.  Kids touch everything and they stick their hands in their mouths often.  I'm not a big fan of hand sanitizer gels, so we use good ole soap and warm water.  Luckily our kids enjoy "playing" in the running water, so it's not too hard to get them to do this one!

Stay away from sick folk!  I know there are a lot of people who will go to work sick, still bring their kids to playgroup, etc.  Watch out for those with the sniffles.  Even if they say they are fine, don't risk it and keep your distance!  The same goes for you...if you aren't feeling well, stay in so you don't spread anything.

Bring tissues!  Make sure to bring tissues wherever you go.  While covering your sneeze with your hand or arm is polite, it still spreads germs...use them for yourself and hand them over to your sneezing friends!

Stay Healthy!  This is a big one.  Getting sleep and eating well can actually help you.  If you get run down, your immune system is also prone to getting run down as well.  We all lead busy lives, but if you don't take the time to take care of yourself, you won't be getting much of that to do list done, anyway!

Vitamin C, take it!  We all know vitamin C helps us, we take it and our kids take it.  They make yummy chewables now that go down easy and leave the kids asking for more.  Making it a habit to take vitamins is always a good thing.  Especially for kids, as they will be more likely to continue as they grow older.

Bundle up, peeps!  I know often times with myself, I tend to think, “Oh, I’m just running to my van”.  Even if you don’t plan on being outside, it’s still good to be prepared and to be warm during those times.  One thing that bugs me to no end is to see parents walking around with jackets on, but their kids don’t have them on.  If you are cold enough to need one, they are, too!  Keeping an extra set of clothes for everyone in the trunk is a good idea, too.  Just in case there is a spill…there’s nothing worse than being wet AND cold!

I hope these tips help a little as we move towards winter.  Do you have any tips to add?   I would love to hear what you do to keep your family cold and flu-free!  Here’s to everyone staying warm and healthy this year!
